How to Register with the State: Go to AZTaxes.gov and select “License a New Business.”

Use the Arizona Joint Tax Application to apply for your transaction privilege tax license by paper.

Registration Cost: The cost for each “state” license/location is $12. The city license fees vary by city. A list of program cities and their current fees is available on the Joint Tax Application (JT-1).

Filing Requirements: Filing can be completed electronically or by paper.

Due Date: All businesses are required to report on a monthly basis, unless authorized to report less frequently. Businesses with an annual tax liability between $500 and $1,250 may be permitted to report on a quarterly basis; those with an annual tax liability of $500 or less may be permitted to report annually. The due date for the TPT-1 return is the 20th of the month following the month of the sales activity. However, if the return is postmarked on or before the 25th of the month or is received by the department on or before the next to last business day of the month the return will be considered timely.

* Effective January 1, 2015, if your annual transaction privilege tax liability is less than $2,000, you may file and pay annually; if your annual transaction privilege tax liability is between $2,000 and $8,000, you may file and pay quarterly. Otherwise, your transaction privilege taxes are due monthly.

Where to File: To file electronically, visit AZTaxes.gov or download and print Form TPT-1.

What Will You Need: Your taxpayer ID number issued by the state. This number should consist of eight (8) numerical digits. In addition to your Transaction Privilege Tax License Number, an EIN or SSN is also required when filing any return.

Renewal: Annually, no additional fee unless you have certain changes to your license or you add a location. No bond required.
